Kelly O’Brien

Welcome! I’m Kelly, and I look forward to working with you on your journey to health and healing. A little about me; I love spending time outdoors with my friends and family, whether hiking, boating, or getting outside for a walk to take in some fresh air and sunshine. I also enjoy pilates, live music, and art in various forms. I look forward to traveling to new places and immersing myself in other cultures. Additionally, I have a passion for integrative nutrition though I certainly appreciate a good Taco Tuesday.

Before becoming a social worker, I used my B.S. from SUNY Oswego to work in business and fashion in NYC. I am no stranger to navigating the challenges associated with straying from the course when things don’t turn out as anticipated. Following that, I was very fortunate to have experienced working in an integrated educational and residential setting for individuals with developmental disabilities and those on various levels of the autism spectrum from childhood to adulthood. This work acted as the catalyst for attending Stony Brook University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I have also worked in case-management, with homeless families with school-aged children, and with individuals with dual diagnoses (mental health and substance abuse) as well as trauma backgrounds in a clinical setting. As the school social worker at an alternative high school and technical education program, I coordinate community resources, counsel teens and parents regarding social-emotional health, and handle behavioral concerns and crises to foster students’ success both in and out of school.

I hope to work together to help reduce patterns or behaviors that hinder growth and connectivity. We can also reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, abolish fear and anger, become more mindful and increase self-awareness and self-worth. Or whatever it may be that you want to achieve or overcome! No matter what stage of life you are in or what you have experienced, good or bad, it is never too late to make a change. I’m glad you’re here.
